my graphics card in the desktop is frying so it looks like i'll be playing a lot less. i still have the laptop as a backup but it's subpar for gaming.

someone have free time to build me a pc for around $400 Razz

What parts can you salvage? Case, PSU? DVD? HDD? Their interface (IDE, SATA)?

Salvage will help narrow your choices and save some $$

from what i've heard Dell pc's aren't compatible with nearly anything so i think the bigger items aren't salvageable. i could keep ide HD, ram, cd drives, sound card, and peripherals. the video card is the ol' agp so any new system will obviously be an upgrade

side note, ordered another card so i should be back within a week.

cant you just slap a new video card in? my friend has a dell desktop but it came with a shitty video card so we slapped in a new one and it worked fine.

yup, that's what i've done, it's an agp 8x card (ati radeon 1650 512mb) so it makes games playable but below par compared to the pcie cards. it went bad so i ordered a replacement (radeon hd 3650 512mb)

but i wants a new pc bounce
